Shot of the Day 11/02/13

Good morning, friends.

Today I am posting another autumn photograph. This particular shot was taken at Lincoln Park in Seattle a few weekends ago.

Lincoln Park is a place that my family frequently visited when I was a child and I have some fond memories of it. I have very vivid memories of the fall colors there, and I wanted to capture some of that again. This particular shot was more of the “yellow” color variety rather than the “orange” and “red” that  I was looking for, but that is ok because this shot is one of my favorites from this year. This was shot with my D800 and my 25-120mm lens, with adjustments made in lightroom for contrast, saturation and crop.

I want to apologize for the low resolution of this particular photo. I had been posting higher resolution photos all year because low res, small photographs just do not do any good shot justice, but I learned that one of my photographs was recently pirated and is making its way around the internet without my permission and without credit. So, I am forced to go back to the lower res versions until I get comfortable again posting larger files.

Until later, stay cool!

Chris.

Shot of the Day 10/25/13

Good morning, Friends,

Just a quick shot this morning of my favorite mountain, Mt. Rainier.

I took this shot a few years back during one of my excursions to the park. It is an HDR shot (more on that in another post). And in case any of you were wondering, yes, I do have prints available for sale.

Blessings and Happy Friday,

Chris.

Shot of the Day 10/20/2013

I had another opportunity to photograph a high school football game on Friday night. I love doing this and I welcome every opportunity to do so, except perhaps in the rain and wind (haha).

Anyway, this past Friday I was out at Franklin Pierce Stadium again to shoot the Franklin Pierce High School Cardinals as they matched up against the Fife Trojans. It was a very cold, foggy night as this photograph illustrates. This was about 1/2 through the first period when a bank of fog started to roll in. While the entire game wasn’t shrouded in fog, a good portion of it was. When I post more photographs from this game later in the week, you’ll see a number of them with played veiled by the soupy substance.

I was shooting with my Nikon D800 with a 70-200mm lens. And yes, the fog was wreaking havoc with metering.

Until later, blessings.

Chris.

Shot of the Day 10/11/13

This is one of the first landscape photographs I took with a true DSLR camera. Back in 2005 or so, this was taken on Lake Chelan, WA.

Honestly, this is not one of my favorites, primarily because the shutter speed I used on this shot was way too high. Ordinarily, I would have like to set the camera up on a tripod and slow the shutter down to give me a nicer look on the surface of the water, but alas I did not have my tripod with me on this trip. Nevertheless, I love the colors and wanted to share anyway.

Blessings,

Chris.

Shot of the Day 10/04/13

A flower picture that I took this morning. Light using a regular tungsten bulb, camera on tripod to slow the shutter speed down. Adjustments in lightroom.

I took a few more photographs and will post them in the coming days.

Enjoy.

Shot of the Day 9/27/13

Can you say, Wolverine!

First published photographs of the Wolverine we ran into a few years back. And yes, this was a few years back. Probably 2007. Shot with my D80 and an 40-85mm lens. Contrast and exposure adjustments in Lightrroom.

Wolverines are dangerous animals. Do not approach this animal if you run across one. Fortunately, this one didn’t mind getting his photograph taken.

Blessings,

Chris.

Shot of the Day 9/14/13

Good morning, Puyallup.

In my yard, I keep a couple of bird feeders. I love the birds. They make me happy. Well, not the crows–they are annoying. But in general, I love to have the birds around. So yesterday, I was sitting on my patio when a huge flock of sparrows or whatever they are swarmed one of my feeders. I just so happened to have my camera nearby so I picked it up and shot a couple of photographs. I tried not to disturb them too much, but was happy that I was able to get a couple of these.

Enjoy.

And blessings on you today.

Shot of the Day 9/02/13

Happy Labor Day to you.

As we start another new month, I have been reflecting on the previous month a bit. Among many things I contemplated, one of the things I noted was the absolutely gorgeous sunsets that occurred throughout the month. August seemed to have one right after another. Unfortunately for me,  I was never in a very position to get a really stunning shot-that is one with a beautiful locale, subject, or point-of-view. But I did not want the sunsets to go away without me taking at least one photograph, so I decided to take the camera to my front yard to take a shot of one of the more spectacular sunsets.

Here it is.

Blessings on your week,

Chris.
