Girls Soccer-FPHS vs. Sumner

It has been a great soccer season for the Franklin Pierce high School girls, and they are now preparing for the last couple of regular season games.  Looks like they will be on to the play offs in November! These ladies have put in great effort and tremendous sportsmanship this year. With all of their hard work and new coaching staff (thanks Coaches Green and Pich!) they are poised for a quality record this year. Please enjoy a few photos from Thursday’s game against the powerhouse, Sumner.

Go Cards!

Franklin Pierce Senior Prom 6-04-11

Our son Joseph asked us if we could take some photographs of him and his friends before their senior prom last night (they attend Franklin Pierce High School). We were only happy to oblige, so we took them down to the Tacoma Waterfront to get a few formals and a few candid shot.

While I’d love to post all of them here, I don’t want to give it all away. But here are a few of them for your viewing pleasure.

Enjoy.

Blessings,

Chris.

P.S. If you are a school planner or ASB representative, remember that we can be the on-site photographer for all your formal events (i.e., homecoming, prom). No longer are you stuck with impersonal, “box-store”, factory-like photographer. You can support a local business and get better shots, better pricing, and a better selection of products for your attendees. Call for details.

Senior Photography Sessions Still Available – Puyallup Photographer

Ok seniors. Graduation is just over a month away and you still haven’t had your senior pictures taken. Don’t panic-we’re here to help.

In a normal year, there is no real rush to have your portraits taken as the time between the start of the school year and graduation is about 9 months. You call us, we schedule a time, a place, take your photographs, process them, have you and your parents in for a viewing, design your announcements, cards, etc., order your portraits and cards from one of our many professional photo labs, and deliver them to you in plenty of time to graduation. But since we are at the end of April, we really only have a month or less left.  So here is a plan of what we are going to do.

Right now, we are scheduling some very quick in-studio shots that will give you a couple of choices for announcements and such. From the time we capture the photograph to the time we deliver them, we need about a week. And weather dependent, we have some availability to take your outdoor portraits at the location of your choice. Of course, if the weather is bad then all bets are off unless you want to take a photograph in the rain, lol. And if we get enough interest, then we may just schedule a number of mini-sessions at a location of our choice.

So don’t hesitate, give us a call today and let’s get those portraits done!

Blessings,

Chris.

P.S. If you are a junior this year, please give us a call for our early bird specials on your senior portraits.

McChord Air Expo – Tacoma Photograhy

Ok, first, I love airplanes. I love the science of them, I love the shape, I love the smell, the sound-everything. If it weren’t for a couple of factors (money included) I would be flying my own airplane around enjoyed the world from a birds-eye view.

So when the opportunity to photograph some of the the McChord Air Expo came up, I jumped at the chance.

Below are but just a few of the photos that I shot of the event today. I’d love to post them all but unfortunately I cannot. So I hope that you enjoy a sampling of what I have below.

Blessings,

Chris.

Fixing Digital Photographs

In my business, I get a lot of questions regarding how to “fix” digital photographs. Of course, the best fix is to take a good photograph that doesn’t need any fixing. But, even professionals like myself can’t help taking a photo that needs a tweak or two. So how do you do it?

Adobe Photoshop is absolutely the best software package out there to use to fix a photograph. It can do just about anything from retouching a skin blemish to changing a background. However, Photoshop is very expensive and can be quite intimidating for the non-professional. So what can I do, you ask?

Easy, Adobe recognizes that Photoshop is not for everyone so they have released a program called Adobe Photoshop Elements. Think of it like Photoshop’s little brother without the big expensive price tag and without the intimidating interface and learning curve. You will be able to find about 90% of the “fixes” found in its big brother and it even contains tutorials and “recipes” for fixes and enhancements.

Download a free trial version at the following link

Best wishes in your efforts.

10 Tips for Photographing Babies

Smith_171I love taking photographs of babies. Ok, let me rephrase–I love taking pictures of happy babies! 🙂 Unfortunately for me, I don’t get to photograph them often enough. My own children have grown up so unless business calls, I don’t get much of a chance.

But when I do, I try to follow the follow the following simple guidelines. I post them here in the hopes that if you follow them, you may get some great photographs of your babies.

1.  Take pictures often – babies grow far too quickly so it is important to capture enough photos as they grow out of infancy.

2.  Get down on their level – move to their level, even if it means getting on the floor.

3.  Move in close … – fill the viewfinder or LCD with your subject and eliminate distracting objects.

4. … but try different angles – create some visual interest, especially in a series of photographs, by varying your angle.

5. … and don’t forget to get on their level – See tip #2.

6.  Capture feelings – feeling are emotions and it is ok to take photographs of emotion to capture a visually interesting moment in time.

7.  Include other people – babies don’t grow up in a vacuum, so it is ok to include grandparents, sibling, a new friend at the playground, etc.

8.  Show scale – use common object to show how your baby is growing.

9.  Use a plain background – a plain background will focus attention on your baby and will not be a distraction.

10. Use natural light whenever possible. Turn off the flash, and use natural light to create interesting shadows and highlights.

By following these simple tips, I know that you can snap some better photographs of your baby. Of course, these rules apply to other situations too.

God’s blessings.
