Maui in May

Hello Friends,

We just arrived home from a fantastic week in Maui. Of course, we were there for both business and pleasure, with the pleasure being a celebration of our silver wedding anniversary (that is 25 years for all the newbs out there). 25 years is a long time to be with someone, but we are both completely dedicated to each other and never expected not to reach this point.

Anyway, enough with the mushy soap-box stuff. So while we were there, we managed to get out a couple of times to enjoy some of what Maui had to offer. We drove the Road to Hana and went on a few small hikes to see some waterfalls and other scenery, went Snuba diving and snorkeling, enjoyed a traditional luau and hula show, and enjoyed some fabulous sunsets.

The pictures below are but a sample of some of the wonderful things that Maui had to offer.

Thank you Maui for hosting us and we look forward to our return visit.

Blessings,

Chris

Iceland, Day 7

Day 7. Last full day here. Dang.

Well, such as it is, the weather this morning is absolutely horrible. So our morning shoot was canceled. But once the weather cleared up, we took off for Thingvellir National Park. We spent the entire afternoon here, so all the shots this day were in and around the park, including the Hellisheidi Thermal Area and its geothermal plants.

So, this will be my last post from within Iceland. This country is so beautiful and diverse that one could literally spend and entire year here and not see everything. We spend a week in the South, and seemed to hardly explore it. We managed to get some magnificent photographs, only a smidgen of which are in these 7 posts. Over the next few weeks, I’ll put together a compilation of all of them and post for your viewing pleasure.

Thanks for following and blessings to you.

Chris.

Iceland, Day 6

Day 6. 6 down, 1 more to go.

Started the day tracking down more Northern Lights. Not too much to report there. Got a few shots, but nothing worthy of sharing. After about 2 hours of sleep, off to the lava fields outside of Vik for sunrise and various landscape shots. I did manage to get of shot of the famous church in Vik, however.

After packing up, traveling back to Reykjavik, stopping along the way to make some new horse friends, then off to Gulfoss Falls, stopping at Strokkur Geyser on the way. Gulfoss is an absolutely incredible waterfalls-a vista of incredible beauty. If you are ever in Iceland, this place is a definite must stop.

Enjoy.

Iceland, Day 5

Lack of sleep starting to catch up to me.

Started the day at Black Beach outside of Vik, getting some shots of the sunrise over the glacier and the beach. After which, spent a few hours around the guest house where we were staying, and finally ended the days at various waterfalls, including Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss Waterfalls. Seljalandsfoss was an absolutely wonderful waterfall to photograph, as we were there at sunset and this is a waterfall that you can walk behind. You get drenched and the path isn’t all that great, but it is definitely worth the effort to get some incredible photographs. Ended the day chasing the Northern Lights around the south end of the country. They were not as visible this night as they were the previous nights, so I was unable to capture anything too dramatic.

Enjoy.

Iceland, Day 4

Short post today.

Started the day at midnight photographing the Northern Lights. Got back to the hotel at 2:30 am, then up again at 5:30 to hit the beach for more ice shots. After which, we traveled to Vik, stopping along the way for various shots, including some of the Vatnajökull glacier.

There are some abstract shots in here, shot intentionally as various art personal pieces. I have a few other great pieces to share from this day, but need to do some more work on them so I’ll wait for a later post.

Enjoy day 4.

Iceland, Day 3

Today began very early at the beach for some shots of ice on the beach. There are so many pictures out there of this spot, so I was looking to capture one of those. However, two things were working against me: the tide was heading out, the waves weren’t coming at and exiting the beach at the right direction (not 90 degrees), and I didn’t have my rubber boots so I was constantly battling to keep myself from getting wet. I guess that’s three things.

After which, we spent part of the day resting, part of the day looking around the immediate area, and finally ending us at Jökulsárlón for some sunset pictures.

Enjoy.

Iceland, Day 2

Today was pretty much a travel day, making our way from Reykjavik to Austerland on the Southeast coast. We only stopped a few times for bathroom breaks and such, but while in route managed to snap a few photographs along the way.

The last few photographs you’ll see in this gallery are from Glacier lagoon (Jökulsárlón), where the Vatnajokull Glacier empties into the Atlantic (almost).

Enjoy photographs from Day 2.

Iceland, Day 1

Hi Friends,

Well, I made it to Iceland very early yesterday morning. Couldn’t sleep on the plane thanks to the guy behind me who could not stop kicking the seat or whatever he was doing. Anyway, got about 3 hours in the hotel before the explorer in me took over and had to get out. Dodged a few rain showers and saw a couple of things in Reykjavik.

The church in these photographs is Hallgrimaskirja Cathedral. I wish I could tell you the history, but I didn’t really have the time to stop and learning it. The second set of photographs is Sun Voyager Sculpture. Funny story about tourists arriving just as I was getting there, but I’ll save that one for another time.

Anyway, getting into the van in about 15 minutes for a trek to Glacier Lagoon for night shots tonight so I need to sign off. Have a great night.

Paulina Peak, Oregon

Hi Friends,

Been a long while since I posted anything, so this evening I thought that I would write and get a quick one up.

Two weeks ago, Lynette and I spent a long weekend in Bend, Oregon to get out to Fort Rock and Paulina Peak. We made it to both and were blessed with a couple of fabulous sunsets. I will post the Fort Rock pictures later, but here are three from the hike to Paulina Peak, including Paulina Falls.
Let me know if you like these photographs.  🙂

Blessings,

Chris.

Mt. Rainier, Part Deux

Last week, we decided to take another trip up to Mt. Rainier to hopefully get a few dramatic sunset pictures. Before we left, we looked at the sky and saw no clouds but we decided to go anyway as the mountain always gives great photo opportunities.

Enjoy, and blessings.

Chris.
