2016 Half Marathon

Hi Friends,

We happened to swing by the 2016 Fall City Half Marathon last month on a quick trip to Snoqualmie. Not to belabor a point, but the weather was horrible and we didn’t stick around. I happened to capture a few images from the start of the race and the end. Then we went home.

Enjoy.

2016 JBLM Air Expo

Hi Friends.

I love airplanes! I love airshows! I could spent all day watching airplanes roll in and out of an airport, not to mention anything about aerobatics and demonstration flights.

In late August, Lynette and I managed to make our way to Joint Base Lewis-McChord for the 2016 JBLM Air Expo, the first time it had been put on in a number of years. I think the last time we went out kids were very little-old enough to remember but too young to drive (and if you know my kids you know that they are grown now). There were a number of acts scheduled to appear, including a number of WWII aircraft and a demonstration by the U.S. Army Golden Knight Paratrooper Team and the USAF Thunderbirds. The car was gassed up, the batteries were charged, the weather was supposed to be perfect and everything was a “go” as far as I was concerned.

Then Saturday rolled in along with the weather. While it wasn’t raining, thank God, the wind was horrific. And if you know anything about aviation, wind and airshows are not a good combination. So a lot of the acts were canceled for the day. However, there were still a decent number of demonstrations and I managed to get off a few good shots.

So what we have here are a few shots of a North American B-25 Mitchell, a Lockheed P-38 Lightning, a Lockheed T-33, a Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet, a Boeing C17, and of course the USAF Thunderbirds that are General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcons. I also have a couple shots of some of the static displays, and couple of shots from around the grounds, a shot of ‘yours truly’ (complements of Lynette), and a few of all the other cameras shooting various flights.

I hope you enjoy.

Blessings,

Chris.

2016 Tacoma Freedom Fair

Hi Friends,

Hope this lazy Sunday afternoon finds you well.

I know this is a few weeks late, but thought I would post a few pictures I took from the 2016 Tacoma Freedom Fair a few weeks back.

Lynette and I had all but a few minutes to hop on a bus and get out there before the airshow over the water. While we were staking out a place to set up and shoot, I caught a few pics of the goings on around us and even had time for a “photographers selfie” – that is using a full-sized camera and not a cell phone. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the few pics I managed to catch.

Blessings,

Chris

Headshots

Hi Folks,

Happy New Year. I pray that your Christmas was full of joy and special times spent with friends and loved ones.

I just wanted to give you a heads-up—we are back doing headshots again. With one caveat: groups only. Individuals can be done but with some conditions and limitations (call or email for details).

We recently completed a group of doctors who had come together at a local hotel for a conference and we were able to get 25 of their headshots completed while they were there (example below).

If your groups is interested, please consider giving us a call we’ll get you take care of.

In the mean time, blessings to you and your family.

Prom Night

This is prom season. A time when our high school seniors celebrate their upcoming graduation with that epic  formal evening. These days, young men and women spend huge amounts of money and time on their wardrobe, make up/hair up-dos, dinner and transportation. My kids have been spoiled by also having professional photos take of themselves, their dates and at times, a group. It has been so much fun for us to photograph our son and daughter with all of their dances and special events. This year Chris and I just had our youngest attend her senior prom. Caitrin will be graduating from Franklin Pierce High School in just a couple of weeks. Documenting her senior prom was something we have been looking forward to for a long time. We took Caitrin and Brett up to the Seattle Center for their photo shoot. They were both stunning in their formal black attire. I hope you enjoy a sampling of the photos from their evening.

Puyallup Fair 2014 – Washington State Fair

We visited the Washington State Fair (aka the Puyallup Fair, aka Western Washington Fair) last night for a few hours. I primarily go to look at the photography and fine art displays, which are always impressive, but last night I brought my camera and thought it would be fun to take a few pictures of the goings on around use. This is what I captured.

Enjoy.

Rockin’ the “Dock”!!

Last night’s gig was awesome at Rock the Dock (http://www.rockthedockpub.com/) in Tacoma, WA on Dock street! Once again Blurred Vision (http://www.blurredvisionrocks.com/about_us.html)  did not disappoint. This is a band with true talent from their bangin’ vocals to their rockin’ instruments. I always love seeing my buddies from Rogers High class of 1984, Brent Ferguson (lead vocal/harmonica) and Scott Brown (wailing electric guitar). Last night I had the chance to meet the rest of the band: Barbara (vocals), Kevin ( electric guitar/vocals), Tim (bass/vocals), Don (drums/vocals) and Mark (keyboard/vocals). Check them out on Facebook (https:/www.facebook.com/pages/Blurred-Vision-Rocks/108613333472). Please enjoy some of the pictures from last night event. And watch for Blurred Vision’s next gig details.

Skip and Karen’s 50th Anniversary

What a joyous celebration this was! My parents, Skip and Karen Whelan, just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with 180 of their family and friends. Mom and Dad have touched so many people in their years together. They are a true and wonderful example of commitment and devotion to each other. My sisters and I have been blessed to grow up in the warm and loving household that our parents provided. Our friends were always welcome. Our husbands have been warmly embraced. We have all been blessed by the love that Skip and Karen have with each other.

Thank you Dad and Mom,

Lynette

Girls Soccer-FPHS vs. Sumner

It has been a great soccer season for the Franklin Pierce high School girls, and they are now preparing for the last couple of regular season games.  Looks like they will be on to the play offs in November! These ladies have put in great effort and tremendous sportsmanship this year. With all of their hard work and new coaching staff (thanks Coaches Green and Pich!) they are poised for a quality record this year. Please enjoy a few photos from Thursday’s game against the powerhouse, Sumner.

Go Cards!

Franklin Pierce vs Fife High School Football – Sports Photography

Good evening,

I had another opportunity to photograph a high school football game on Friday night. I love doing this and I welcome every opportunity to do so, except perhaps in the rain and wind (haha).

Anyway, this past Friday I was out at Franklin Pierce Stadium again to shoot the Franklin Pierce High School Cardinals as they matched up against the Fife Trojans. It was a very cold, foggy night as you can see in some of these photographs.  While the entire game wasn’t shrouded in fog, a good portion of it was.

Fife prevailed in this epic battle on the gridiron.

One of my favorite shots is the “portrait” of two Fife underclassmen. They approached me on the sideline and asked me to take their photography. Of course, fella’s, my pleasure. 🙂

Blessings,

Chris.
