Photographs of Maui in 2017

Ok, ok, ok. Before you start, I know already. 2017, you say? Yes, 2017. I was looking through my draft blog posts today and I saw one buried deep in there-this one. So I’m going to post it now regardless of the fact that the year is now 2021.

So we visited Maui, Hawaii again in 2017. This was our 2nd visit to the island, and it was no less disappointing than the first visit. In some ways, it was better. You see, it was February and that means whale season and we had arrived smack dab right in the middle of it (last time we went the whale season was over).

So in this gallery you will see a variety of pictures that I took over the week that we were there. It starts with some sunset photographs overlooking Molokini from South Maui, other sunsets from Lahaina, sunrise at Haleakala (the dormant volcano) including a startrail photo I took, surfing, whales, island landscapes, and ending with a variety of Hawaiian flowers that can be found on Maui.

I hope that you enjoy the photographs as much as I love taking them. BTW Maui is one of my most favorite places in all the work and I really look forward to getting back there in 2022.

Blessings,

Chris.

Hawaii 2020, part 1

Hello Friends,

What an absolute crazy year this has been! Crazy is an understatement to say the least. We’ve all had our challenges with the coronavirus crap and everything that that has meant (if you have lost a loved one because of it we are deeply sorry and offer our prayers for you and your family), but me personally this year started with us losing my father and needing to say goodbye to him. There have been other challenges that 2020 has thrown at me but I’ll keep those to myself and not bore you all with my sob stories.

Anyway, we were fortunate enough to have planned a trip to Hawaii (Maui) and were able to travel (and return home) before we were all locked down and sheltered-in-place. Our kids joined us and we had a fabulous time.

The photo’s below are but just a few of the many photographs (non-diving related) that I shot when we were there. Certainly not as many as previous trips as our kids were with us, but always just as entertaining. There are a few of our family scattered within.

I hope that you enjoy. My next post will be some of the underwater photos I shot so stay tuned.

Blessings as always,

Chris.

Maui in May

Hello Friends,

We just arrived home from a fantastic week in Maui. Of course, we were there for both business and pleasure, with the pleasure being a celebration of our silver wedding anniversary (that is 25 years for all the newbs out there). 25 years is a long time to be with someone, but we are both completely dedicated to each other and never expected not to reach this point.

Anyway, enough with the mushy soap-box stuff. So while we were there, we managed to get out a couple of times to enjoy some of what Maui had to offer. We drove the Road to Hana and went on a few small hikes to see some waterfalls and other scenery, went Snuba diving and snorkeling, enjoyed a traditional luau and hula show, and enjoyed some fabulous sunsets.

The pictures below are but a sample of some of the wonderful things that Maui had to offer.

Thank you Maui for hosting us and we look forward to our return visit.

Blessings,

Chris

Iceland, Day 7

Day 7. Last full day here. Dang.

Well, such as it is, the weather this morning is absolutely horrible. So our morning shoot was canceled. But once the weather cleared up, we took off for Thingvellir National Park. We spent the entire afternoon here, so all the shots this day were in and around the park, including the Hellisheidi Thermal Area and its geothermal plants.

So, this will be my last post from within Iceland. This country is so beautiful and diverse that one could literally spend and entire year here and not see everything. We spend a week in the South, and seemed to hardly explore it. We managed to get some magnificent photographs, only a smidgen of which are in these 7 posts. Over the next few weeks, I’ll put together a compilation of all of them and post for your viewing pleasure.

Thanks for following and blessings to you.

Iceland, Day 5

Lack of sleep starting to catch up to me.

Started the day at Black Beach outside of Vik, getting some shots of the sunrise over the glacier and the beach. After which, spent a few hours around the guest house where we were staying, and finally ended the days at various waterfalls, including Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss Waterfalls. Seljalandsfoss was an absolutely wonderful waterfall to photograph, as we were there at sunset and this is a waterfall that you can walk behind. You get drenched and the path isn’t all that great, but it is definitely worth the effort to get some incredible photographs. Ended the day chasing the Northern Lights around the south end of the country. They were not as visible this night as they were the previous nights, so I was unable to capture anything too dramatic.

Enjoy.

Iceland, Day 3

Today began very early at the beach for some shots of ice on the beach. There are so many pictures out there of this spot, so I was looking to capture one of those. However, two things were working against me: the tide was heading out, the waves weren’t coming at and exiting the beach at the right direction (not 90 degrees), and I didn’t have my rubber boots so I was constantly battling to keep myself from getting wet. I guess that’s three things.

After which, we spent part of the day resting, part of the day looking around the immediate area, and finally ending us at Jökulsárlón for some sunset pictures.

Enjoy.

Mt. Rainier, Part Deux

Last week, we decided to take another trip up to Mt. Rainier to hopefully get a few dramatic sunset pictures. Before we left, we looked at the sky and saw no clouds but we decided to go anyway as the mountain always gives great photo opportunities.

Enjoy, and blessings.

Chris.

Shot of the Day 3/29/14

Good morning fellow photo enthusiasts,

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted anything–way too busy these days. So I am posting a picture I took last Saturday.

This is a picture of the sunset over Lake Tanwax in rural Pierce County, Washington.

I love it, I hope you do too!

Blessings,

Chris.

Shot of the Day 9/02/13

Happy Labor Day to you.

As we start another new month, I have been reflecting on the previous month a bit. Among many things I contemplated, one of the things I noted was the absolutely gorgeous sunsets that occurred throughout the month. August seemed to have one right after another. Unfortunately for me,  I was never in a very position to get a really stunning shot-that is one with a beautiful locale, subject, or point-of-view. But I did not want the sunsets to go away without me taking at least one photograph, so I decided to take the camera to my front yard to take a shot of one of the more spectacular sunsets.

Here it is.

Blessings on your week,

Chris.
